Stargazer 137 – Shimmer Green

If you’re in the UK, chances are, the first ‘weird’ lipstick you ever got your hands on was from Stargazer. For those of you in the US, this brand fills the niche Manic Panic has over there, although it has a much wider range of products and target audience. Older readers might be disappointed though – from what I can tell, the formula as well as the packaging have changed from this company, and the pigmented, creamy and often long lasting products from my pre-teens now run much waxier and sheer.

The Lipstick

Firstly, like Manic Panic, the first time I applied it, it was very dry, dragged and has almost no color payoff. It took about five separate attempts to get the lipstick to a point where it would apply more easily, and by that time I had lost faith and interest, and promptly forgot all about it.
Coming back to it for review purposes, I couldn’t really see myself wearing this shade again, but only because I have now got a lot of other similar shades of a higher quality. I would, however, recommend it for people on a budget, or occasional use. The color, while now a lot stronger, is still very sheer, and begins to slide around long before it builds up an even coverage, which then transfers very easily and does not set or dry. This is not the kind of lipstick you could wear out for a day, or eat/drink wearing.

The Packaging

As I mentioned in the beginning, the packaging for this product changed about 4/5 years ago to a standard black base with a clear top. The layout of the text and logo is printed on the black casing, and it looks pretty sleek but cheap. The main problem though is a practical one – the bullet does not wind all the way down, meaning it is almost impossible to remove or replace the cap without nicking it. Almost all of my Stargazer lipsticks have a ring of product at the bottom of the cap, and dents all over the bullet.

Oral Piercings

Thanks to the difficulty getting the product on, and the fact that it does not seem to set, I would not recommend this product to people with liprings, as it has a tendency to either wear away under the jewelry, or collect behind it.

Alternatives

Other green lipsticks that I like better than this product are Morgana Cryptoria's 'Cosmic Ray' and Barry M's 149. It is most like Manic Panic's 'Green Envy', to the point of a close dupe. In a choice between the two, I would purchase Manic Panic's product over Stargazer's 137.
